Gynecomastia in Zurich

Gynecomastia – for youthful and shapely breasts

Breast tissue changes over time. The natural ageing process, as well as weight loss or pregnancy, can cause the breasts to lose elasticity and sag. Many women find this change stressful and wish for a firmer, more youthful breast shape.

A breast lift (mastopexy) is a proven method of lifting sagging breasts, reshaping the breast tissue and bringing the nipple into an aesthetic position. If additional volume is desired, the lift can be combined with breast augmentation using implants or autologous fat.

At Tremp Plastic Surgery in Zurich, we accompany you from the first consultation to aftercare with the highest level of expertise and empathy. Put your trust in our many years of experience and let us advise you personally.

The intervention

A breast lift is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia and takes around 1-2 hours. Depending on the extent of the procedure, an inpatient stay of one night may be advisable.
During the operation, the breast is reshaped from the inside and the skin is tightened. The removal of tissue and skin also changes the position of the nipples. To achieve an aesthetic result, the areola is adjusted in relation to the new breast and the nipple is raised without affecting sensitivity or the ability to breastfeed.

Aftercare

In the following 6 weeks, you should wear a sports bra for stabilization and care for your scars accordingly. We will provide you with detailed information on optimal scar care. Ideally, you should sleep on your back during the initial period. The suture material will be removed after approx. 10-14 days, after which you can shower and bathe again.

Sport, UV radiation and visits to the solarium should be avoided for at least 6 weeks in order not to impair healing and scarring. The final result is visible after about 6 months. During this time, the chest muscles should not be strained unnecessarily.

Reasons for a
Gynecomastia

A breast lift can be useful for various reasons:

  • Natural ageing process: With increasing age, skin elasticity decreases, causing the breast to lose firmness.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: After childbirth and breastfeeding, the breast tissue can change, with a loss of volume and sagging as possible consequences.
  • Weight loss: After losing a lot of weight, the shape of the breast often changes and excess skin remains.
  • Genetic factors: Some women have a naturally sagging breast shape.
  • Asymmetries or breast deformities: A breast lift can also be performed to correct congenital differences in breast shape.

Many patients opt for a breast lift to feel comfortable in their body again and to achieve a beautiful, harmonious décolleté.

Gynecomastia methods

Various methods can be used for a breast lift. The decision for a particular procedure depends on the individual situation. The choice of incision technique depends on the shape and size of the breast, the desired extent of the reshaping and the surgical effort required.

O technique (Benelli method):

The O-technique, also known as the periareolar incision, is gentle and leaves only a small scar. The incision is made around the areola. This procedure is very suitable for light tightening.

I technique (Lejour method):

The I technique, also known as vertical lift, is recommended for a greater lifting effect. It enables a significant change in breast volume.

T-technique (Strömbeck method):

The T-technique with an additional horizontal incision in the underbust crease enables the greatest change.

A breast lift can also be combined with a breast reduction or breast augmentation, depending on your individual needs and wishes. We will determine which method is the best choice for you in a personal consultation.

Dr Tremp is not only a doctor but also, above all, a very decent, respectful and professional person. From the very first minute, I knew that I wanted him to perform my nose operation. No other doctor had ever given me the confidence and courage to take this step. Thanks to his expert advice, I was able to make a confident decision to go ahead with the procedure.
Dr Tremp performed my nose operation two weeks ago. I am satisfied, and I will continue to receive support after the operation, which gives me even more confidence. He takes the time to discuss any concerns.
I would have Dr. Tremp operate on me again anytime. He is simply an excellent doctor who always puts the patient’s well-being first. Thank you very much for everything. As a patient, you appreciate it and it gives you peace of mind when you know that someone is there for you.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about Gynecomastia in Zurich

Gynecomastia refers to an enlargement of the mammary gland tissue in men. It can occur on one or both sides. This is distinct from pseudogynecomastia, in which breast enlargement is primarily caused by fatty tissue.

No. Depending on the cause, gynecomastia may resolve on its own, for example, during puberty. If there is an underlying medical cause, that should be treated first. Surgery is an option, particularly in cases of persistent and bothersome breast tissue.

Treatment depends on the cause and the type of tissue present. Options include liposuction, surgical removal of glandular tissue, or a combination of both procedures. If there is significant excess skin, a skin tightening procedure may also be necessary.

Every surgical procedure results in scars. However, the incisions are kept as small and inconspicuous as possible, for example, in the area of the areola. The size and location of the scars depend on the surgical technique chosen and the individual patient’s condition.

That depends on the extent of the treatment and the nature of your job. If your job involves minimal physical exertion, you can often return to work sooner than if it involves heavy physical labor. We will discuss your individual timeline during your treatment and follow-up appointments.

You should take it easy on your chest area during the first few weeks. When you can resume physical activities depends on the healing process and the extent of the procedure. In particular, you should not engage in intense upper-body strength training until you have received medical clearance.

Removed glandular tissue does not typically regrow. However, if there are hormonal changes, certain medical conditions, medications that trigger gynecomastia, or significant weight fluctuations, the shape of the breast may change again. That is why it is important to investigate possible causes before surgery.

Whether the costs are covered depends on the individual’s medical situation and the terms of their specific insurance plan. For procedures performed solely for cosmetic reasons, patients are generally responsible for the costs themselves. If there is a medical indication for the procedure, it is advisable to consult with your health insurance provider beforehand.
