Thread Lift – Gentle Facial Tightening Without Surgery

Frau erhält Fadenlifting

Thread lifting is considered one of the most effective non-surgical methods for facial rejuvenation. Specially developed medical threads are inserted into the skin, where they immediately tighten the tissue, smooth out wrinkles, and at the same time stimulate the body’s own collagen production over the long term. The result: a fresher, more youthful appearance—without surgery and without visible scars.

    What is a thread lift?

In a thread lift, high-quality, absorbable PDO (polydioxanone) threads—the same material used for surgical sutures—are inserted into the skin using a fine needle. Once there, they mechanically tighten the tissue while simultaneously stimulating the body’s own production of new collagen. You can think of it as an invisible corset under the skin that creates a firmer and more youthful appearance.

The key advantage: The PDO threads dissolve completely after 12–15 months, while the newly formed collagen remains permanently in place and strengthens the skin from the inside out. The results are immediately visible and continue to improve in the months that follow.

Indications: Who is a good candidate for a thread lift?

A thread lift is suitable for people with early to moderate signs of sagging skin who want a visible rejuvenation without surgery. The treatment is particularly suitable when facial contours are losing definition, the cheeks are sagging slightly, or certain areas appear tired and less defined. A thread lift is not an alternative to a surgical facelift in cases of significant excess skin, but it can achieve very beautiful, natural results when tissue sagging is just beginning.

    Treatable Areas

    • Cheeks and Midface
When the midface loses its firmness and the cheek area sags, the face can appear tired or heavy. A thread lift can gently lift the contours and restore a fresher, more defined appearance to the face.
    • Nasolabial folds and marionette lines
These wrinkles are often caused by sagging tissue. Gently lifting the overlying structures can visibly reduce nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
    • Jawline and Chin Contour
A softer or less clearly defined jawline is a typical sign of early skin sagging. A thread lift can make the jawline appear more defined and harmonize the lower facial contour.
    • Eyebrows and Forehead
If the eyebrows droop slightly, the eyes can appear tired or stern. In certain cases, the outer part of the eyebrows can be gently lifted, making the eye area appear more alert and open.
    • Neck and Décolletage
Loss of elasticity often becomes apparent early on in the neck and décolletage as well. A thread lift can gently firm the skin in these areas and make the skin appear tighter overall.

How does a thread lift work?

    1. Personal Consultation and Analysis
Before treatment, we assess your skin condition, the degree of tissue laxity, and your facial anatomy. Together, we discuss which areas should be treated and what results are realistic and appropriate.

    2. Preparation
Before the procedure, the paths of the threads to be inserted are precisely marked on the face. This is the foundation for a symmetrical, natural-looking result.
    3. Anesthesia
Next, a local anesthetic or numbing ointment is applied to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure.
    4. Placement of the threads
The PDO threads are inserted through a small incision, either perpendicular or parallel to the muscle axis.
    5. Lifting
Once the threads are in place, they are gently tightened—the lifting effect is immediately visible.

    6. Aftercare
Immediately following the procedure, we’ll check the results and discuss with you what you should be aware of during the first few days. Mild swelling, a feeling of tightness, or minor bruising may occur, but these symptoms usually subside quickly.

Possible Combination Treatments for Thread Lifts

Thread lifting is most effective when combined with complementary regenerative treatments. At our practice, we recommend:

    Juvelook / PDRN / Exosomes

The combination of thread lifts and biostimulative procedures such as Juvelook, PDRN, or exosomes is particularly effective: While thread lifting instantly tightens and defines contours, the biostimulators regenerate the skin’s quality from within—resulting in improved texture, elasticity, and radiance overall.

    Emface

Emface combines electromagnetic muscle stimulation with radiofrequency energy for non-invasive body contouring. When used in combination with thread lifting, it produces a multi-layered tightening effect at both the skin and muscle levels—making it an ideal complementary treatment approach.

    Radiofrequency microneedling

RF microneedling stimulates collagen synthesis at various depths within the tissue. As a complementary treatment to thread lifting, it improves skin quality, refines pores, and optimizes skin texture—for an all-around rejuvenated complexion.

What are the risks associated with a thread lift?

Thread lifting is considered a proven and low-risk treatment; however, even this procedure is not entirely free of potential side effects. In the first few days, you may experience mild swelling, bruising, tenderness, or a feeling of tightness. Temporary minor unevenness or asymmetry is also possible, but these usually subside as the area heals.

In rare cases, inflammation, a visible or palpable thread structure, or insufficient correction may occur. A precise technique, high-quality materials, and careful medical planning are crucial for a safe and beautiful result. During your personal consultation, we will explain in detail whether a thread lift is the right treatment for you and what results you can realistically expect.

Your Consultation on Thread Lifts at Tremp Plastic Surgery

A thread lift should always be customized for each individual. Not every case of sagging skin can be treated with the same technique, and not every face benefits from the same number or type of threads. That’s why we take the time during your consultation to carefully analyze your wishes, your current condition, and your treatment goals.

Together, we’ll determine whether a thread lift is right for you, which areas can be treated, and whether complementary procedures would be beneficial for achieving your desired results. Our goal is always a fresh, harmonious result that preserves—rather than alters—your natural facial features.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About Thread Lifts

Thread lifting uses an advanced, minimally invasive technique to achieve a gentle and non-traumatic skin tightening effect. High-quality PDO threads, which are also used in surgery, are employed in this procedure. These threads are very well tolerated by the human body. They dissolve completely after 12–15 months. As the body replaces them with new collagen, fresh and firmer tissue forms naturally.

After a thread lift, the face appears younger, more vibrant, and fresher. The rejuvenating effect is immediately visible and continues to improve over the following months due to the threads’ collagen-stimulating effect. Your face’s natural expression is fully preserved; the result looks natural, not like you’ve had surgery.

A noticeable lifting effect is visible immediately after the treatment. The face appears instantly firmer and younger. This effect intensifies over the coming months due to the collagen-stimulating action of the PDO threads, so that the optimal result is achieved after about 2–3 months.

The results of a thread lift typically last 1–3 years, depending on skin type, age, lifestyle, and the number of threads used. Since the newly formed collagen is permanently retained, skin quality improves over the long term. If necessary, the procedure can be repeated at any time.

The treatment is performed under local anesthesia or with an anesthetic ointment and is therefore very well tolerated. During the procedure, you may feel slight pressure or a pulling sensation, but no actual pain. After the treatment, you may experience mild tenderness for a few days.

Patients can resume social activities after about 5 days and usually return to work immediately. Exercise is possible right away. Occasionally, mild swelling or bruising may occur, but these subside within a few days. No visible scars remain.

Thread lifting is considered a safe procedure with few complications. The PDO threads used have been proven effective in surgery for decades and are completely absorbable by the body. The procedure is performed exclusively at our practice by PD Dr. Mathias Tremp, a specialist in plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery.

Thread lifts start at CHF 1,200. The exact price depends on the number of threads used, the areas treated, and your individual treatment plan. During your personal consultation, you’ll receive a transparent, customized cost estimate—with no hidden fees.

A surgical facelift generally provides the most lasting results for significant skin sagging. A thread lift is the ideal alternative for patients who want a visible tightening effect without surgery or general anesthesia—with a short recovery time and natural-looking results. During your consultation, we’ll work together to determine which procedure is best suited to your current appearance and your goals.
