Preparation

A comprehensive consultation takes place before treatment. We will discuss your wishes and expectations, determine the best treatment for you and explain the procedure and possible risks to you in detail. To optimally support the healing process, we advise you to avoid blood-thinning medication and nicotine for at least 2 weeks before the operation.

The intervention

Breast correction can be performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis depending on the complexity of the procedure and takes 1-3 hours depending on the method. In most cases, breast correction is performed under general anesthesia. Minor procedures such as nipple correction can also be performed under local anesthesia. Depending on the method, we remove excess tissue, insert implants or inject autologous fat to create a harmonious breast shape.

Aftercare

Give your body some rest after the procedure: we recommend a rest period of one to two weeks, depending on the breast surgery. You will usually be given a support bra which you should wear for the next 6 weeks. It helps to stabilize the tissue and supports the healing process. Do not exercise during this time.

Reasons for a
breast correction

A breast correction can be useful for various reasons. These include 

  • Breast asymmetry: If one breast is significantly larger or smaller than the other, this can affect both the aesthetic perception and the fit of bras and clothing. 
  • Tubular breast (trunk breast): Tubular breasts are a growth disorder in which the breast appears tubular and is underdeveloped. The lower part of the breast is often less pronounced, so that the nipples can appear disproportionately large. 
  • Sagging or drooping breasts: After pregnancy or significant weight loss, one breast can lose significantly more volume than the other. A lift or augmentation can restore symmetry. 
  • Inverted or enlarged nipples: Some women have congenital inverted nipples that do not protrude. Conversely, nipples that are too large or asymmetrical can detract from the overall appearance. 
  • Asymmetrical areolas: An uneven size or shape of the areola can be adjusted by surgery.

Many patients opt for a breast correction because they suffer from breast asymmetry and want a more harmonious, natural-looking breast.

Breast correction methods

Various surgical techniques are available for breast correction, depending on the individual initial situation. Asymmetries or deformities can be corrected in different ways:

Breast augmentation with implants or autologous fat

If the breast size is unequal, the smaller breast can be compensated for with a breast implant or an autologous fat transplant (lipofilling). In lipofilling, the body’s own fatty tissue is taken from the abdomen or thighs, for example, and injected into the breast to achieve a natural fit. A sufficient amount of fat is required.

Breast reduction to create symmetry

If a breast is significantly larger, tissue can be removed as part of a breast reduction to achieve a uniform size and shape.

Breast lift to adjust sagging breasts

If a breast is more severely sagging, we can adjust the shape and bring the nipples into an aesthetic position with a breast lift (mastopexy). If necessary, a breast lift can also be combined with a breast augmentation or reduction.

Correction of tubular breasts

Various techniques are used to correct tubular breasts, including autologous fat grafting, implants and mastectomy. An implant is used to compensate for the underdeveloped glandular body.

Correction of the nipples

Depending on the individual situation, various treatments can be used to correct the nipples: 

  • Inverted nipples: Shortened milk ducts or scarring can result in the nipples not protruding. This can be corrected with a minor operation. 
  • Enlarged or asymmetrical nipples: Nipples that are too large or uneven can be surgically reduced in size and shaped. 
  • Adjustment of the areola: If the areola is asymmetrical or has an undesirable size, it can be reduced or enlarged by surgical lifting.

Risks of a breast correction

Thanks to modern surgical techniques and Dr. Tremp’s many years of experience, breast correction is a safe procedure. You do not need to worry about serious complications; however, certain risks can never be completely ruled out. Swelling and bruising are possible, but these should subside after a few weeks at the latest. Temporary sensory disturbances are also possible. Capsular fibrosis or impaired ability to breastfeed are much rarer. These risks can be minimized right from the start thanks to careful planning and our expertise.
