Facelift procedure

Preparation

A detailed consultation takes place before the procedure. During this consultation, your individual wishes, the anatomical conditions and the best possible technique for an optimal result will be discussed. You should also avoid nicotine and blood-thinning medication for at least two weeks before the operation to minimize the risk of wound healing disorders.

The intervention

The procedure is usually performed under deep sedation (so-called twilight sleep) with a laryngeal mask. This type of anesthesia is gentler than general anesthesia and allows spontaneous breathing. The incisions are made along the hairline and around the ears so that they are barely visible later. The skin is then carefully lifted and the underlying tissue tightened. If necessary, excess fat can also be removed or redistributed. Finally, the skin incisions are closed with fine sutures.

Aftercare

After the procedure, you should sleep flat without a pillow to minimize swelling. Avoid salty, acidic foods, hard foods and alcohol for 2 weeks. Showering with shampoo is allowed after about 3 days. The stitches are removed after 5-7 days and unrestricted sporting activities are possible again after around 4 weeks. It is also important that the scars are treated with sun protection (SPF 50) or a special fatty ointment for at least a year.

Depending on your skin type and lifestyle, the results of your facelift will last for several years or even decades.

Combined face and neck lift

The combined face and neck lift is a particularly effective method for patients who have pronounced sagging skin on both the face and neck. By tightening both areas at the same time, harmonious and natural results can be achieved.

Mini facelift

The mini facelift is generally used for patients who tend to have very thin, wrinkled skin but no significant sagging of the soft tissue. In a mini facelift, the skin is only tightened on the side of the cheek, whereas in a classic facelift, the entire cheek area and neck are tightened. The incisions are always made in the most inconspicuous places possible, e.g. behind the ears.

SMAS facelift

The SMAS facelift (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) also lifts and revitalizes the muscle and connective tissue plate under the skin of the face and neck. Due to the combined shifting and tightening, the tightening forces during the lift are limited to the depths. The superficial facial skin remains virtually tension-free. This makes the SMAS facelift more natural and long-lasting. The procedure is often combined with a fat transfer treatment.

The costs for a surgical facelift vary depending on the complexity and are discussed and determined individually with you in advance. This includes all measures such as consultation, surgery, anesthesia and follow-up checks.

Risks of a facelift

As with any surgical procedure, general complications such as impaired wound healing, infections or post-operative bleeding can occur. In smokers, the healing process can be delayed and blood circulation can be impaired. The after-effects of a facelift, such as swelling or bruising, usually subside within 14 to 21 days after the procedure. You can then return to your normal daily activities. A facelift is suitable for women and men who suffer from sagging skin on the face and neck and want to rejuvenate their appearance. It is particularly suitable for patients who want a natural, long-term result.

The results of a facelift are long-lasting and can last for many years depending on skin type, genetic predisposition and lifestyle. Factors such as sun exposure, smoking or significant weight changes can affect the durability.

The incisions are made in inconspicuous areas, usually along the hairline and behind the ears, so that the scars are barely visible after healing. Careful aftercare with scar care and sun protection can further minimize the appearance of the scars.

The stitches can be removed after about a week. Normal everyday activities are possible again without restriction after 4 weeks, while physically strenuous activities and sport should be avoided for around 6 weeks.
