Birthmark removal in Zurich

Birthmark removal – for an even complexion

Moles, liver spots or skin changes are generally harmless features on our bodies. On the face or in other conspicuous areas, however, they can be extremely annoying – both from an aesthetic and medical point of view. This is because there is a risk of skin irritation due to rubbing or shaving, especially with raised moles. As a result, many patients want them to be removed safely and in an aesthetically pleasing way.

At our Tremp Plastic Surgery practice in Zurich, we offer the gentle removal of moles using modern methods such as laser technology or a minor surgical procedure. Which method is most suitable depends on the type, size and depth of the skin change. We will be happy to discuss this during a personal consultation.

Preparation

We first welcome you to our Zurich practice for a detailed and personal consultation. Here we will discuss your wishes regarding mole removal and the best method for you. Conspicuous moles or rapidly growing skin changes should be clarified dermatologically in advance.

The intervention

The treatment is carried out on an outpatient basis. The skin area is locally anesthetized. Depending on the method, the birthmark is either gently removed by laser or surgically removed. The treatment usually takes no longer than 15-45 minutes. Afterwards, you will receive individually tailored wound care and can return home.

weiter zu: AFTERCARE

Aftercare

After laser treatment, a slight reddening remains for a few days, which subsides on its own. A slight scab may form, which must not be rubbed off independently under any circumstances, as this can negatively affect wound healing and increase the risk of scarring. After surgical removal, the wound should be kept clean and protected from the sun. The stitches – if used – are removed after approx. 7-10 days. Sun protection (SPF 50+) for at least 3 months is important for both methods to prevent subsequent pigmentation disorders.

Reasons for the removal of a birthmark

Moles are usually genetic and appear more frequently over the course of a lifetime – due to sun exposure, hormonal changes or age-related processes. Everyone has moles on their skin, sometimes small and inconspicuous, sometimes large and prominent. While in most cases they are not bothersome, it can sometimes make sense to have a mole removed.

Reasons for removal may include

  • Aesthetic disorder on the face or visible parts of the body
  • Mechanical irritation, e.g. from clothing, shaving or jewelry
  • Change in shape, color or size (requires clarification)

In our Zurich practice, it is very important to us to combine medical safety and aesthetic results in the best possible way – regardless of whether it is a purely cosmetic wish or a conspicuous finding.

Methods of mole removal

The method we choose to remove your birthmark or other skin changes depends on the individual findings. We will analyze your birthmark in a personal consultation and decide on the procedure together.

Laser treatment

For shallow pigment spots or cosmetically disturbing skin changes, treatment with a powerful laser is suitable. The treatment is painless and usually leaves no scar. The pigment is specifically destroyed and the skin regenerates itself. Several sessions may be necessary. The advantage of the procedure is that it is non-invasive and does not require a long healing and downtime period.

Please note that laser treatment is only suitable for benign skin changes. In the case of malignant changes (e.g. melanomas), we recommend surgical removal.

Surgical removal

Surgical removal (excision) is recommended for raised or deeper moles and suspicious skin changes. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The mole is removed using fine incisions and at a safe distance from the surrounding tissue. Depending on the size and area, you will be able to socialize again after just a few days.

Costs of mole removal in Zurich

The cost of removing moles or other skin lesions depends on the type, number and chosen method of removal. You can expect to pay from CHF 450 for a laser treatment.

We will provide you with an individual quote in advance, including all expenses (treatment, surgical material, follow-up checks). In the case of conspicuous or medically indicated findings, the costs may be (partially) covered by health insurance.

Risks of mole removal

The removal of moles is a low-risk procedure, both by laser and by surgery. Nevertheless, as with any treatment, certain after-effects can always occur. Temporary swelling or redness after laser treatment is not uncommon. Small bruises may also occur after surgical removal, but these should disappear again after a few days.

In rare cases, wound healing disorders or pigment shifts may occur. However, these risks can be reduced to an absolute minimum with a precise procedure, careful aftercare and specialist medical experience.

Dr Tremp is not only a doctor but also, above all, a very decent, respectful and professional person. From the very first minute, I knew that I wanted him to perform my nose operation. No other doctor had ever given me the confidence and courage to take this step. Thanks to his expert advice, I was able to make a confident decision to go ahead with the procedure.
Dr Tremp performed my nose operation two weeks ago. I am satisfied, and I will continue to receive support after the operation, which gives me even more confidence. He takes the time to discuss any concerns.
I would have Dr. Tremp operate on me again anytime. He is simply an excellent doctor who always puts the patient’s well-being first. Thank you very much for everything. As a patient, you appreciate it and it gives you peace of mind when you know that someone is there for you.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about mole removal in Zurich

A mole removal is advisable if the mole is cosmetically unpleasant, regularly irritated or changes in shape, color or size. Conspicuous moles should be examined by a doctor to be on the safe side.

Laser treatment does not usually leave a scar. Surgical removal can leave a fine scar, which heals inconspicuously with proper care.

Thanks to local anesthesia, you will not feel any pain during the procedure. The healing phase is also generally painless.

Depending on the method and treatment area, you will be able to socialize again immediately or after a few days. For larger procedures, the wound should remain covered to avoid infection.

If the mole is completely removed, recurrence is rare. In the case of superficial laser treatment, for example, if pigment cells remain, a new mole may form.
