Preparation

A detailed consultation takes place before the procedure, during which we get to know you as a patient and your wishes. Based on your medical history and individual anatomical conditions, we will plan your customized treatment and provide you with detailed information about the procedure and preparation for the operation. Blood-thinning medication should be discontinued at least one week before the procedure and nicotine and alcohol should be avoided to minimize the risk of secondary bleeding.

The intervention

We perform upper eyelid lift surgery on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and twilight sleep. The incision is made exactly in the natural eyelid crease so that the scar is barely visible, if at all, even when the eye is closed. Excess skin and occasionally fatty tissue are removed. The procedure takes around 60 minutes and you can return home on the same day.

Aftercare

The eye area should be cooled regularly in the days following the operation. Slight swelling or bruising is completely normal and usually subsides within 7-10 days. The stitches are removed after 5-7 days. You will then generally be able to socialize and work again, but should refrain from sports, saunas and heavy physical exertion for about two weeks. Pay particular attention to strong sun protection (SPF 50+) in the first few months to avoid the risk of unsightly pigmentation of the scar tissue.

Reasons for a

Droopy upper eyelids, also commonly known as droopy eyelids, usually occur due to age-related loss of elasticity. However, they can also be genetic and appear at a young age. With this loss of elasticity, excess tissue gradually accumulates on the upper eyelid. Many men and women find this extremely unattractive. The look can appear tired, tense or even annoyed, even though they feel alert and vital. Increased perspiration in the skin fold is also possible. In severe cases, the sagging tissue can even impair the field of vision and thus restrict vision.

An upper eyelid lift provides a gentle remedy here: excess skin and fat deposits are removed and the eyelid is visually opened. The result is a fresher, more alert expression without restrictions.

Lower eyelid lift

If there are also bags under the eyes or wrinkles in the lower eyelid area, correction can be achieved with a lower eyelid lift. This involves removing or redistributing excess fatty tissue. The aim is to smooth the lower eyelid area and harmonize the entire eye area.

Combined upper and lower eyelid lift

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about abdominoplasty in Zurich

The results of an upper eyelid lift are usually visible for around 10 to 15 years. With good skin care, the effect can last even longer.

You will be in twilight sleep during the procedure and will not feel any pain. After the operation, there is usually only a slight feeling of tension and swelling, which can be well controlled with cooling and painkillers if necessary.

As a rule, you will be socially acceptable again after 7 to 10 days. At this point, swelling and bruising have usually largely subsided and can be easily concealed. Most patients feel ready to return to work after a week.

The incisions run in the natural crease of the eyelid and are barely or not at all visible after complete healing. With good scar care and consistent sun protection, the scars usually heal optimally.

In some cases, an upper eyelid lift is combined with a lower eyelid lift or eyebrow lift. Procedures such as a facelift or forehead lift can also be easily combined.
